Hello my name is Mrs. Ureña. Ever since I was six years old I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. My mind was set, I had a goal, and my dream became a reality. I obtained my Bachelors Degree and multiple subject credential from University of La Verne. I added my Bilingual Authorization in Spanish in February 2016.
I have been part of the education field for over 17 years. During these years I have had a variety of positions that have allowed me to grow as an educator. I have worked as an instructional aide for the adult school, intervention aide, substitute teacher, ASES group leader, preschool teacher, intervention specialist, ELD teacher at the high school level, elementary teacher, and extended day teacher (teaching art). All of these positions have been very fulfilling and I have learned so much. The children, teens and adults that I have encountered, have taught me to be tolerant and understanding of everyone's differences. My passion is to teach. My purpose is to make sure that children feel capable of achieving great things.
I was born in Mexico and I arrived to the United States when I was 9 years old. I remember the challenges that I encountered in school because I didn't speak English, but I was so eager to learn English that it took me about one year to finally learn the language. I was officially a bilingual student and I was very proud of myself. I never lost my Spanish language, which I love, and English was an added gift into my life. I have always been very proud of my culture and language, and I am making sure that I instill the same pride in my children. I have been blessed with five children, ranging from 20 years old to 4 years old. I love writing, art, and science. I hope to one day publish several children's books in Spanish as well as in English. I enjoy the simple things in life, such as spending time with my children, watching movies, going to the beach, and sitting outside in the backyard complementing the sky and my surroundings.
